Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School returns to Ink-N-Iron for a 3rd straight year of epic figure drawing spectacle in the Boiler Room, bottom floor of the tattoo hall.

Since 2005, Dr. Sketchy’s has been the name in alternative drawing. From illegal flashmobs to the Museum of Modern Art, Dr. Sketchy’s has brought artists a rule-breaking cocktail of dames, drinking and drawing. Dr. Sketchy’s branches draw in over a hundred cities around the globe, from Akron to Zagreb. In 2011, Dr. Sketchy’s Los Angeles and Baby Tattoo Books produced the World’s Biggest Dr. Sketchy’s at Ink-n-Iron with over 1000 artists sketching more than 100 live models over the course of the weekend.  World renowned art legends including Coop and Michael Hussar were on board to draw alt supermodels including Mosh and Skin Diamond.

In 2012, under the leadership of Ringmaster Bob Self (aka Mr. Baby Tattoo), Ink-n-Iron attendees will have even more opportunities to sketch famous models side-by-side with master artists. Dr. Sketchy’s is included with festival admission and will be open all three days of the event.

Whether you’re an artstar or a scribbling newbie, Dr. Sketchy’s is the perfect place to get your fill of life-drawing.

Baby Tattoo: Book Giveaway

The Early Bird Gets the Rubber Duck!

The first 500 Ink-N-Iron attendees (18 years and up) through the main gate entrance each morning will receive a free autographed copy of the book “Karen Hsiao: Rubber Duck” as a gift courtesy of art book publisher and festival sponsor Baby Tattoo Books.

“Rubber Duck” is a fantastic collection of simple yet sophisticated portraits of charismatic models (some are famous pinup and fetish models) in a bathtub with rubber ducks. The sexy, playful images aren’t just visually stunning; they are representations of our inner selves. Arrive at Ink-n-Iron early for your chance to get some wow-worthy, thought-provoking eye-candy. The book is a $35 value, free to the first 500 festival goers (18 years and up) through the gate each morning. Stop by the Baby Tattoo booth on the wharf to get additional free autographs from some of the models appearing in the book.

(Please Note: This book is intended for mature audiences only.)

Motorama

Hosted by: the Cavaliers Car Club

The Ink-N-Iron Car Show is the best car show of its type in So Cal. Cars are strictly hand-picked and must be pre-69, and have to be in a style from that era. Please check out the photos in the Gallery. The last Ink-N-Iron had over 200 selected cars in the show with 18,000 attending to view the car show. If you wish to put your car in the car show, you can register with our down loadable form.

This year we bring you the “Motorama Experience” under the dome. This series of displays illustrates the car show and drag racing history of Long Beach and throughout Southern California. We will be showcasing historically matched dragsters-gassers and altereds on the Lions Drag Strip diorama, complete with all the signage-artifacts and photo archive of the historical Long Beach drag strip. Besides that, we have Barris Kustom City. We have built the historical façade of the shop on Atlantic Blvd., circa 1959 to display 3 traditional kustoms. Then, we re-created the cover of Motor Trends’ 1949 cover with its 1930’s ranch house and grass front yard , all life size to display the very car that was on the cover in the original shot. Lastly, the creator of the Rat Fink character, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s’ shop has been resurrected to display his wild automotive creations of the “60’s”. But, by far the most interesting feature of the “Motorama Experience” is the museum quality presentation of the Wall of Legends display alongside the Renegades C/C historical presentation. These two displays will transform you back to the “Hey Day” and beginning of the Hot Rod and Kustom car craze daddio. Through the three dimensional castings of the legends hands holding the tool of their craft on the Wall of Legends, these are the men who forged this sport of hopping up and kustomizing automobiles of the day. To the illustration of one of Americas most revered and respected car clubs, Renegades, they were formed in Long Beach back in 1941 by 5 high school friends. This display shows the club from their beginning to their rise in car show prominence to become Car Craft Magazine’s “Americas Car Club of the Year”, 1959. We are able to show you pictures of the club members and their cars, to their 5 day Rod & Kustom Motorama held in the LB Municipal Auditorium back in 1958-1960 as well as other club activities.

Best Black & Grey) and the chance to win a Sterling Silver Sacred Heart trophy for themselves and a marble plaque for their artist. The Sacred Heart awards are hand made for us from a friend in Rome Italy, who has an agreement to obtain the hearts from the Roman Catholic church. Some are over 100yrs. Old. These are very special and sought after.

Our panel of industry leaders is left to the responsibility of judging each tattoo using multiple criteria. We do award second place for each category with a ribbon.
